Bluewater Productions has released ebook versions of Orbit: Jack Kirby, a biography comic about comic book great, Jack Kirby. The hard copy of the book will be out by March 19th.

This marks my first published comic book work through a comic book production company.  The book was written by John Judy, with all of the illustration work done by me.

Tales of the Red Planet

February 13th, 2012 by

Progress is wrapping up for my first official comic book, “Tales of the Red Planet.” That’s right, all of those updates of character designs and comic panels weren’t for nothing! The eBook version will be available for purchase in early March from The Illustrated Section, and will appear in the “8 in Spaaaaace!!!” anthology later this year.

This was my first experience writing and illustrating my own story. That being said, I was able to get some great critiques by my fellow creators over at the Illopond.

Why is this story only 8 pages? Well, there was a call out for 8 creators to each create an 8 page story for an anthology called “8 in Spaaaaace!!!” Since I don’t consider myself great at writing my own stories, I thought this would be some great practice for me to improve on this desired skill. Having a set limit of 8 pages to tell a story in, is a great way to practice telling your story straight to the point.

As I began to brainstorm an idea for the story, I was drawn to one idea, but in the end it became something much better and totally different. I knew from the start that I wanted the story to take place on Mars, but coming up with everything else was a great learning process, and I have Lora Innes and Alan Evans to thank for some excellent advice on storytelling (visual and written).

I’ll post more updates as the release date draws near, and for even more updates you can follow me on twitter @_paulcox_

Screen-Cap of the Week Episode 1

January 15th, 2012 by

This week’s screen-cap is brought to you by www.illopond.com, The collaborative community that made this idea possible!

As I was working today, I thought I’d start taking a screen-cap each week of something exciting that I’m working on.

Right now I’m coloring page 3 of my 8 page space story, “Tales of the Red Planet.” This is part of a collaborative effort by a bunch of great artists and storytellers to create a space themed anthology. You can go to the comunity forums to see all of the works in progress!

Gotta love gnomes!

Aside from trying to finish up my bigfoot in space story, I’ve been taking on all sorts of freelance illustration projects. One recent project that I’ve been working on involves illustrations for a game in production for the Sony Minis program.

You can find some recently released images of the project at Twisted Dragon Media!

Then I saw the darkness - Threadless T-shirts

I’ve submitted my first design to www.threadless.com for their “Threadless Loves Drawing II” Competition. The design is still pending approval by the Threadless staff, so you can’t vote on it yet. However, you can check the design out by clicking on the image above.

The design is based on one of the paintings from my Gallery show, and is titled “Then I saw the darkness.” You can find the full gallery show in the dropdown menu of the ‘Portfolio’ tab under ‘Light and Darkness.’
